anticapitalist:
Fox News’ Lou Dobbs is taking aim at The Lorax and The Secret World of Arrietty for brainwashing our kids with their anti-industrialism agenda, and for foisting Obama’s rhetoric about “sharing” onto children. Because sharing is evil.
We would be shocked, except that digging through pop culture’s leftovers in search of indoctrination paranoia is not even remotely new for these...
Corporate Margins And Profits Are Increasing, But... →
As we’ve been noting, corporate profits have made it back to their pre-recession heights (even if corporate tax revenue hasn’t followed suit). In fact, in 2011, corporate profits hittheir highest level since 1950. But as Bloomberg News noted today, this hasn’t translated into wage growth or more purchasing power for workers:
Companies are improving margins and generating profits as wage growth...

Sorry but, circumcising someone who cannot consent (an infant/small child) because of disputed health ‘benefits’ or simply because their father was circumcised (among various other reasons) is unethical.
It’s simply unethical, there’s no way around that. As a society we cannot continue denying our males the choice to keep every part of their body. It’s not right.

Another Reason to Doubt the Susan G. Komen...
I’ve always been skeptical of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
1) Their focus is all “cure, cure, cure.” What about causes? And if they are all about the cure, why aren’t they funding promising drugs like this? I think it’s likely because they’e more interested in staying so well-funded (and well-paid) than potentially ending or decreasing the need for their...

Rules of American Justice →
Glenn Greenwald: “The Rules of American Justice are quite clear:
(1) If you are a high-ranking government official who commits war crimes, you will receive full-scale immunity, both civil and criminal, and will have the American President demand that all citizens Look Forward, Not Backward.
(2) If you are a low-ranking member of the military, you will receive relatively trivial...

Facing the Truth About Inequality and Ending the...
Since I posted this yesterday, it’s been reblogged almost 600 times so far. A few of those reblogs have included critical and defensive comments that fail to address the point. Stuff like “there are other factors” and “we need to stop attacking the wealthy and focus on equal opportunities in education” and “this data is cherry-picked.”
To clarify, the...

Jews and Arabs are 'genetic brothers'
I always heard that Jews & Arabs are cousins but didn’t realize or look into the genetic proof behind the statement until I participated in National Geographic’s genealogy project a few years ago. Both of my parents can trace their Lebanese Druze roots back for generations. The results of my mitochondrial DNA (passed down from mother to daughter, the only part of my DNA that could...

Charity ≠ Justice
As many of us make donations to charity during the holiday season, it seems like an especially appropriate time to question the widespread need for charity. Ideally, the need would be rare, only necessary in cases like natural disasters. Instead, many communities are entirely dependent on charity.
We must focus on shifting from band-aid solutions to poverty to a collaborative international system...

Your Delusion is the Reason
To the people under the spell of propaganda and fear: your delusion is the reason tyranny reigns.
To the people who still think America is the land of the free: your delusion is the reason our government can get away with tyranny.
To the people who still believe there is hope with our current system: your delusion is the reason our government IS getting away with tyranny.
